ABOUT

Called “One of the strongest Dramatic Singers in Canada” by the Halifax Chronicle Herald, Charlotte Moore is a Canadian Musical Theatre Icon, having appeared across the country in everything from Blockbuster Musicals (Les Mis, Hairspray, Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Wizard of Oz) to many Original Canadian Works.
One of Canada’s most dynamic performers, Charlotte has been on the scene for over forty years.

She is the daughter of Mavor Moore (Order of Canada, Governor General’s Award, first Artist to head the Canada Council) and grand-daughter of Dora Mavor Moore (after whom Toronto’s annual Theatre Awards are named), In fact Charlotte was the recipient of the 1990 Dora Award for best performance in a musical her work in “The Rocky Horror Show”, and was nominated again exactly 30 years later for “Sunday In The Park With George”.
She has played most of the women in “Anne of Green Gables” (eleven productions to date), and has done 3 productions of the iconic “Cabaret” – once as Sally Bowles and (30 years later) twice as Fraulein Schneider.

She has twice appeared in Gypsy – once as “Louise”, and once as “Rose” – eighteen years apart. She also managed the same trick with “Lucy” in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She played “Fantine” in Les Miserables across the country, and her favourite role to date is definitely as the sole woman in Stan Rogers – A Matter of Heart. She spent a season in Robin Phillips’ Grand Theatre Company , and three wonderful seasons at the Shaw Festival, culminating in the unforgettable Jackie Maxwell production of Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. Charlotte has also done a lot more shows you’d recognize, but her real passion are the ones you probably won’t – the Canadian shows that she has had the pleasure of being in, many of them World Premieres. Shows by Andrew Seok, Leslie Arden, Jim Betts, Cathy Elliott, and a whole host of other folks – a lot of whom are represented on her 1st CD, “Friends of Mine- Songs From Canadian Musicals”. It features fifteen songs from shows past and present, only one of which had been recorded before. For more information on that and her other recordings, please check out the Music page.

“Let us now praise Charlotte Moore. Praise her for warmth, depth, stillness, and a single malt voice that pours forth rich and true.”
Richard Ouzounian
Toronto Star
“Most memorable is the sole woman, Charlotte Moore, who offered some brilliant reinterpretations of a couple of Rogers’ classics. On “White Squall”, she sings...with such subtle intensity that we were both in tears at the end.”

“Moore’s is a powerful and beautiful voice. A real show-stopper.”
Maureen Peterson

“The sweet purity of Charlotte Moore’s wail, laid raw and bare.”
Gary Smith
Hamilton Spectator
“Let me rave for a moment about Charlotte Moore. She is one of those Musical Theatre Performers who sings with her heart and her head constantly. She creates this little drama with each song that she presents - and she’s a wonderful comedy performer. She’s also a really moving performer - she’s really top notch.”
Jon Kaplan
CBC Radio
“Miss Moore is a splendid ballad singer...a crazy, but solidly grounded, mock femme-fatale...Joyous energy.”
Carol Corbeil
Globe and Mail
“The ever vivacious CM, with that powerful voice and razor-sharp comic timing...”
Ray Conologue
Globe and Mail
“One can always pass the time in slower moments by doing something useful, like falling in love with CM, a singer and actress who never comes out of character for a second and is outstanding among four excellent performers.”
Wayne Edmunston
Vancouver Sun
“Charlotte Moore’s “Mama Rose” is a marvel, a one-woman whirlwind of energy, passion and good cheer. Moore’s voice is more than capable of handling the demanding tunes - and her stage presence is commanding and confident. She’s the perfect “Mama Rose”, a role that can only be delivered by a very small cadre of extraordinarily talented actresses.”
